I think that Bruce Willis is probably the best all around film star that has survived nearly three decades without a dud. And with Surrogates it’s a near miss. Just eking above average, the film survives with some awesome special effects and Willis’ creative performance. If you like science fiction that goes hyper realistic, then Surrogates should be on your DVD short list.
A raw action sarcastic comedy/drama, Inglourious Basterds is one of Tarantino’s best no-holds-barred, in-your-face, masterpieces. Now on DVD you can enjoy all the tasteless humor with a lion’s share of brutal sadistic war related violence. When the film ends, check out the many bonus features on the 2-disc special edition that includes a digital copy so you can carry the film around with you on your portable player.
Well it has finally arrived and just in time for holiday giving, the unrated 2-disc digital DVD special edition of The Hangover. I could hardly wait to open the box and snatch out the discs and toss them into my player. No surprise here, the film translates just fine on my home theatre TV. In fact, it is even funnier than I thought when I saw it in the theatre. Able to slow mo, rewind and pause gave me the power over this collectable comedy. AND, the bonus features include 100 new photos from the missing camera.
This fun film gets off to a quick start with some very comedic scenes. I enjoyed Extract more on DVD than I did in the theater. Why you ask? First you don’t need the big screen to enjoy Mike Judge’s style of comedy and you can repeat those scenes that make you laugh. The bonus features are quite good so make sure you check them out.
Hopefully you have seen the movie 2012 in which the world as we know it drastically changes due to a seismic calamity. Whether you did or not, what I call the History Channel’s companion piece Doomsday 2012: The End Of Days will fill you in on all the details that will challenge your mind and offer reasons why the catastrophe may be possible. Nicely documented, questionably plausible yet something to ponder over, the DVD is good entertainment.
Now on DVD, G-Force is still a very good family film filled with comedy and adventure that kids and most parents will like. The only difference here is the loss of in theatres only 3-D which made the film an even bigger hit. That said, your tots will love the film’s many bonus features and the ability to see G-Force over and over and over again.
“IT’S PUPPY LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT” Starring voices of: Tom Bosley, Tim Conway, Josh Flitter, Christopher Lloyd and George Wendt Directed by: Robert Vince Disney
An animated adventure comedy bursts on to DVD in a 4-disc combo pack from Disney-Pixar; it’s called Up and the touching high flyer is excellent for the whole family. The Disney-Pixar formula of making a film that is spirited and interesting with the ability to warm your heart has not changed here, only the storyline and the characters.
This quality television series features some of the bloodthirsty creatures that computers can generate. I am totally blown away by Tony and Ridley’s The Hunger a fine production that’s heads above most horror films. It’s Twilight for adults. Fine acting, direction and cinematography prove that it doesn’t have to be on a movie theater screen to be a big event.
