Hopefully you have seen the movie 2012 in which the world as we know it drastically changes due to a seismic calamity.  Whether you did or not, what I call the History Channel’s companion piece Doomsday 2012: The End Of Days will fill you in on all the details that will challenge your mind and offer reasons why the catastrophe may be possible.  Nicely documented, questionably plausible yet something to ponder over, the DVD is good entertainment.

The film states that the Mayan calendar, Oracles, The Bible and even the World Wide Web tends to predict that on December 21, 2012 the world will be destroyed by water and fire.   Is there any truth to the prophecy that the world will end on that specific date? And why do so many oracles throughout history seem to point to that same dreaded doomsday? This fascinating special cuts through the myths and offers a fact-based examination of the Doomsday prophecy.

I am somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to predictions that determine the end of the world, and it doesn’t matter if I am wrong because no one will be here to dispute my assumptions.  After watching this documentary and the bonus Mayan Doomsday Prophesy on the DVD, it does make me wonder how right are the soothsayers that predict the cosmic based cataclysm.

Several scholars make their case in the 94 minutes mostly based on a theory that the planets will align themselves causing the earth to tilt making the Earth’s poles change position.  When this happens, tidal waves will cover the landmasses with water and the plates that cover the earth will divide causing death to most everyone from either drowning or starvation.

Not knowing a lot about these mysteries of the universe, I can only sit back and ponder on what to do for the next three years.  Should I store food in a specially built shelter (much like the A-Bomb shelters of the early 60’s), move to a high mountain, find a cave impervious to water or try to hop aboard the next space shuttle to make a home on the moon?  Outlandish as it may seem, all four could be a salvation if the prophecies are true.  But, I don’t see the scholars featured in the documentary doing any of the above.  So I’ll have to assume that they think that one cannot do anything about the natural order of the universe, have already made peace with their maker, or they don’t REALLY accept the Oracles/Mayan/Biblical predictions themselves.  OR, they have already signed on to ride the next shuttle off the planet.

My suggestion is to make sure you have all the necessary documentation that you will need to file your income taxes by April 15, 2013 or you will find yourself in another kind of world that the US Government provides tax evaders.

FINAL ANALYSIS: A well-written documentary emanating from interesting sources. (4 of 5 Palm Trees)
