Silly, silly and more silliness, but that is what make Dinner for Schmucks fun to watch. The film does start out very slow, but it gains momentum leading to a hysterical ending. You’ll have to like the acting of Paul Rudd and Steve Carell to really get the ultimate comedic benefit from the film.
From France comes a quirky little film that captivates, explodes, deceives and in the end, grabs at your heart. It’s called Micmacs and the fun film fires up and takes notice. I loved everything about it and I can’t wait to see it again.
Computer Generated Animation goes to new heights with Despicable Me providing a crisp well lighted 3D that’s equal to Toy Story 3. The storyline in the film is not new, but all the wonderful characters are and that’s what makes Despicable Me a winner. The family oriented feature plays to all levels with adults getting equal share with the kiddies, so you can bring the whole brood to this one.
The soft spoken Jonah Hill leads a stellar cast in the film Cyrus, a bizarre yet touching film that turns romance on it’s ear. I found the film to be very amusing and well acted. If you like your romance with an odd twist, then this film is ready for your date night.
If you want to have a good laugh, then you need to see Get Him to the Greek. It’s a funny, off the wall comedy that had me laughing throughout the film. Hill and Brand play two characters that encounter many hilarious situations that kept the audience rolling in their seats.
Take a bucketful of Saturday Night Live alumni, add director Bill Dugan who has a long list of comedies and throw in a script that allows it’s cast to show their stuff and you have a recipe for laughter. That’s what Grown Ups delivers and I don’t know a better way this hot summer to chill out at the movies.
What would you expect from the director of Smokin’ Aces? Another big action thriller and director Joe Carnahan comes through. The fun ride starts with action and ends with a big bang. The comedic timing, wild stunts, great CGI/special effects and wacko storyline make The A-Team a big winner. If you are an action junkie, lover of the television series or just wanting to escape from a hectic day then this barnburner should do the trick.
Producer Judd Apatow comes up with another winner with Get Him to the Greek. The movie is so funny I nearly pulled a stomach muscle. Directed toward a male audience with a smaller entertainment factor for females, this film makes all the right moves. It’s funny, gross, unexpected and contagious. I suggest you gather up your buddies or convince your significant other to join you and let the laughter begin.
This funny little gem from Italy features the wonderful acting and directing by Gianni Di Gregorio. The fast paced storyline of Mid August Lunch plays out two humorous days Italian style with delightful characters acted by a superb support cast. Whether you are into foreign comedy or just want to sit back and escape to another culture, this film makes a scrumptious ‘meal.’
