The world has become a dangerous place and our protection needs super heroes that will perform any job that needs to be done, even those that may result in their extinction. Now, there is another mission that only one team can complete and that team must be made of warriors that have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They are The Suicide Squad! Some may call the film a bit silly, but then aren’t all of DC’s Squad films famous for that? Just sit back and enjoy the chaos.
Intelligence Officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) puts together another squad of thirteen inmates from Belle Reve penitentiary following an attack that devistated an initial mission. They are Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), TDK (Nathan Fillion), Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Savant (Michael Rooker), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), Javelin (Flula Borg), Mongal (Mayling Ng), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), and the Weasel (Sean Gunn). These oddball characters have many reasons why they join the mission, especially the reward of ten years off their sentence.
Facing impossible odds these miscreants must find a way to save the world from a coup that has taken over the country of Corto Maltese. The island country is heavily fortified and controls a secret that could destroy the world. Now Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) must find a way to control his squad of many ulawless fighters so they can work together to discover the secrets that await them.
Director and writer James Gunn puts together an action packed film that includes very gory deaths, huge explosions, and a very interesting super villain. The special effects are excellent and effectively create the needed graphical results for the battle scenes and the many villains. As always the comedy antics are well played and presented by each character, especially the feisty Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
This superhero thriller has an all-star cast of some of the ususal fighters, along with many new characters, that keep you entertained throughout the 2 hour plus relentless action . The many gory scenes in the film suggest that you may want to follow the R rating very strictly when it comes to immature pre-teens.
Final Comment: I based my grade on the spectacular special effects, storyline and the exciting acting throughout. 4 out of 5 Stars
