Review by John Delia

Fun and enjoyable, the ladies will love this parody on the cosmetic industry starring some of the better humor bearers in film. It’s another take on how to make it to the top and these ladies know how to get there in both brains and laughter. Even though you may find Like a Boss a bit ordinary, it’s the need for a good decompressing during this time of the virus attack. Now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital

Tiffany Haddish as Mia and Rose Byrne as Mel in Like a Boss from Paramount Pictures.

BFF Mel (Rose Byrne) and Mia (Tiffany Haddish) went to school together from grade school, through college and always have each other’s backs. They both graduated with beauty majors and decided that that would be their vocation for life. They even started a cosmetics business together in their garage and call it Mia&Mell or MM and it took off so fast they opened their own store and cosmetic design lab. They have a hit with their cosmetic overnight kit called “One Night Stand” and sales are up. But this past year they have accumulated a lot of debt in the hundreds of thousands with the opening of the store and find themselves at a loss.

Always on top of things and never giving up they promote their line doing make-up parties for rich. At her baby shower she gives her pregnant friend Kim (Jessica St. Clair) a new product they have designed called “Baby’s First Makeup Kit”. Aunt Margot (Catherine Carlen) who’s in attendance spots it and says they should get their company evaluated to see how much it’s worth to others in the same business. Mel likes the idea but Mia’s not having someone taking their company away from her.

Rose Byrne plays Mel Paige and Salma Hayek plays Claire Luna in LIKE A BOSS from Paramount Pictures

When they get a visit by a representative of top cosmetic queen Claire Luna (Salma Hayek), Mel wants to find out more, but Mia doesn’t want to give up being a boss. Director Miguel Arteta puts the top stars through their paces bringing a lot of laughter in some very funny situations. He keeps his audience entertained when the going gets tough for Mia and Mel that starts a conflict and horrible decisions. His cast is brilliant in their roles and the ladies won’t walk away from the film without having many inner giggles that only another woman would understand.

Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne are at the top of their game with very the comical and fast moving film. They have good chemistry together giving the kind of performances that have kept them at the top of the female comedy heap. Playing off each other’s lines and antics the two are a stitch, the perfect odd couple for the storyline.

Billy Porter plays Barret and Tiffany Haddish plays Mia Carter in LIKE A BOSS from Paramount Pictures.

But, I rather doubt they would be getting these fine accolades without the help of their support cast that includes Salma Hayek as the devious Claire Luna. She finds one of her best characters in the wicked cosmetic dealing woman and works Claire into a conniving shark that will stop at nothing to get Mel and Mia’s creations. Adding to the fun is Billy Porter as Barrett, Mel and Mia’s cosmetic mixologist, who delivers some priceless dialogue with good comedic timing.
