The Naked Stage is proud to begin its 2009-2010 season with Macon City: A Comic Book Play by Marco Ramirez. The show will run November 13 through November 29, 2009 at the Barry University Pelican Theater in Miami, Florida.
There is a new film by filmmaker Michael Moore called Capitalism: A Love Story and I found it engrossing, informative and tongue-in-cheek comical. Unlike his previous efforts that were more political and wishful, Capitalism goes right for the jugular vein of the banking industry for one and the stock market for another.
I cannot tell a lie, The Invention of Lying is insipid, imitative and somewhat irreverent. Although the film may work in England with Gervais’s very dry humor, the funny stuff just doesn’t win here.
It’s campy and self-serving, but Gotta Dance is a must see for documentary lovers that want to enjoy a good laugh and ponder over ageing. And, if you are a New Jersey Nets basketball fan, you’ll enjoy it even more.

Well they did it again, the movie industry jumped to a level beyond science fiction with Surrogates. It’s called unrealistic. When you make an unrealistic film, you expect the audience to get suckered into a plot so unbelievable that their fantasy brain buds take over and accept what they are watching.
Words like elegant, engaging and enjoyable are best used when referring to Bright Star, a very good film by director Jane Campion who gave us The Piano. The true story period piece comes alive with extremely good performances from the whole cast and the exceptional cinematography depicting the romance of the 1800’s. If you like historical dramas that are well acted and replicate an era then Bright Star should top your list to see.
When it comes to musicals it’s the thrill of watching an interesting character in a dramatic or comedic role burst into song or dance that makes the magic. Although the remake of Fame does have some very good musical numbers, it fails to provide the exciting characters that carry out the story.
Take a true story from the headlines, add some Hollywood comedy and try to make it into a full-fledged feature film. It is no easy task, except if you are Steven Soderbergh. His newest film The Informant is fascinating, remarkable and fun. If you are into films like Catch Me If You Can, A Beautiful Mind or Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, then The

Informant should be just as captivating for you as it is for me.
The movie trailer for Whiteout is exciting, intriguing and cringing, but the actual movie’s none of these. Going into the film I was feeling anxious to get my action fantasy buds popping, and actually did with an exciting shootout on a Russian air transport. Wow this looks like it’s going to be a great film I thought. BUT, a quarter of the way into the film I found myself disillusioned by a slowly paced crime film that featured some of the poorest acting coming from some of the stars I have most idolized.
