Ladies, we finally have a women’s version of The Hangover… just for us! Bridesmaids; it’s filled with laughs, entertainment and friendship. A great movie for a night out with the girls, this film will not disappoint for laughs.

Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy Maya Rudolph and Ellie Kemper

The comedy Bridesmaids tells a story about two best friends, one getting married and the other loosing her wedding planning mind. Annie (Kristen Wiig) and Lillian (Maya Rudolph) have been best friends forever and for that, Lillian appoints Annie as her Maid of Honor. Annie however, soon turns into the Maid of Dishonor when Helen (Rose Bryne), Lillian’s new friend (and self proclaimed bestie) tries to take Annie dowwnnn!!  An all out battle for the title of Made of Honor commences with Annie struggling against all odds, including nearly destroying the wedding, to show she’s Lillian’s true best friend and Helen pulling out all the stops to discredit Annie and prove she’s Lillian’s new best friend.

Annie gets asked to be Lillian's Maid of Honor

The acting shines and the comedic timing of the cast ensure lots of laughs. Not one character carries the movie alone however; instead all involved offer some sort of humorous amusement including some incidents that may have you laughing so hard your side hurts. You will not believe the bathroom debacle at the gown fitting when the girls find out that their lunch takes a turn for the worse.

From the opening scene uproar to the final chuckle, this movie will have you laughing and yet feeling sympathetic for the embarrassingly funny moments poor Annie endures. However, that laughter slipped away far too quickly after the film.  It may be due to the many side stories that include Annie’s lack of money due to her cake store failing thus having to deal with weird roommates and a challenging love interest with a cop. The film does not disappoint on chuckles but with so much going on at once Bridesmaids would have to be seen again to relive all that went down.

So, although Bridesmaids was fun to watch (and I would possibly see it again for the girls’ hilarious interactions) don’t expect to have fond memories of this movie after credits roll. But that’s just my opinion and you’ll have to go and see it for yourself. If you take a group of gal pals you might just have a different experience than I. At the very least you will get a few laughs during the movie.

Grade: Funny and cute, but only slightly above average “chick flick” (C +)

Bridesmaids is rated R for strong sexuality and language throughout. The very beginning of the film is where most of the sex takes place, the rest I would rate PG13.
