(Fort Lauderdale, FL) June 7, 2011 — Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) pays tribute to one of the great actresses of all-time, Audrey Hepburn. The week-long Audrey Hepburn Retro features a 15 film retrospective and 6 parties including two book signings from June 20 through June 26 at Cinema Paradiso.
The films feature Hepburn and her on-screen pals Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, William Holden, Alan Arkin, George Peppard, Henry Fonda, Mel Ferrer (on & off screen!), Sean Connery, Ben Gazzara, Gregory Peck, Albert Finney, and Fred Astaire … all of whom starred opposite Hepburn in films directed by such greats as William Wyler, Billy Wilder, Richard Lester, King Vidor, Peter Bogdanovich, Stanley Donen, John Huston, Blake Edwards, and Richard Quine.
Monday, June 20 kicks-off the event with the epic WAR AND PEACE based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy and starring Henry Fonda, Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer.
The following night, June 21, FLiFF hosts Margaret Cardillo, author of Just Being Audrey with a 6:00pm book signing and reception in the Paradiso Courtyard prior to the film THEY ALL LAUGHED.
On Wednesday, June 22, Jennifer Grant, daughter of Cary Grant and author of GOOD STUFF: A Reminiscence of My Father, will sign copies of her book during a reception prior to the film CHARADE which stars Grant and Hepburn. FLIFF will present a video tribute of some of Grant’s most memorable films.
Delight in Decadent Parisian Desserts between PARIS WHEN IT SIZZLES and ROBIN AND MARIAN or a Rustic Pizza Party between ROMAN HOLIDAY or TWO FOR THE ROAD.
On closing day, get an early start for a day of films with the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Brunch just prior to BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S and stick around for the Audrey Vin et Fromage Wrappe Soiree just before the last film, HOW TO STEAL A MILLION.
Other film highlights include: THE CHILDREN’S HOUR starring Hepburn and Shirley McLaine as teachers of an all-girls school who are accused by a student of having a lesbian relationship; UNFORGIVEN a western that spotlights the issue of racism against Native Americans with Burt Lancaster and an all-star cast; WAIT UNTIL DARK the edge-of-your-seat thriller with Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna; and romantic comedies FUNNY FACE with Fred Astaire, LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON with Gary Cooper, and SABRINA with Humphrey Bogart and William Holden.

Set against the backdrop of Napoleon’s 1812 invasion of Russia, King Vidor’s adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy’s novel stars Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Mel Ferrer.  Both the immensely wealthy Pierre Bezhukov (Fonda) and his friend Prince Andrei Bolkonsky (Ferrer), members of an aristocracy of warriors, become disenchanted with the unheroic truth of war. The reflective, unhappily married Pierre is a seeker after truth, wracked with doubt about himself, about the purpose of the war, and about the destiny of the human race. It is only in his love for the enchanting Natasha (Audrey Hepburn) that the ruminative protagonist can find the meaning that he sought for so long.

Audrey Hepburn, Burt Lancaster star in this western about racial intolerance that focuses around Kiowa claim that the Zachary daughter, Rachel (Hepburn) is one of their own, stolen in a raid. The dispute results in other whites’ turning their backs on the Zachary family when the truth is revealed. Cash (Audie Murphy), the hotheaded brother, reacts violently to learning his “sister” is a “red-hide Indian.” He leaves the family but returns to help them fight off an Indian raid during which Rachel kills her Kiowa brother, thus choosing sides once and for all. Hollywood producer Alexander Meyerheimer (Noel Coward) has hired drunken writer Richard Benson (William Holden) to write his latest movie. Benson now has just two days to the deadline and thus hires a temporary secretary, Gabrielle Simpson (Audrey Hepburn), to help him complete it in time.

They’re informed by former cohorts Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett that Maid Marian now lives at the nearby priory, where she has become an abbess. Marian greets Robin’s return with mixed feelings, but after he rescues her from his longtime enemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham, who tries to arrest her on religious grounds, the adventure continues.

Fashion photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire), in search for an intellectual backdrop for an air-headed model, expropriates a Greenwich Village bookstore. When the photo session is over the store is left in a shambles, much to salesgirl Jo Stockton’s (Audrey Hepburn) dismay. Avery stays behind to help her clean up. Later, he examines the photos taken there and sees Jo in the background of one shot. He is intrigued by her unique appearance, as is Maggie Prescott (Kay Thompson), the editor of a leading fashion magazine. However, a sedative she was forced to take earlier starts to take effect, and the princess is soon fast asleep on a public bench. She is found by Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck), an American newspaper reporter stationed in Rome. He takes her back to his apartment. The next morning Joe dashes off to cover the Princess Anne press conference, unaware that she is sleeping on his couch!
