The Movie: Most of the reviews I read online to prep me for my first viewing of Just Jaeckin's 1981 film adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's controversial erotic novel, Lady Chatterley's Lover , are fairly brutal.
Recommended When Caveman , a spoof of prehistoric action melodramas, was released in April 1981, audiences were pleasantly surprised. The movie, if memory serves, opened with virtually no advance publicity; it just sort of turned up.

It would be easy to summarize Laggies , the new film by Seattle director Lynn Shelton, as being about a woman suffering from the same kind of arrested development as so many movie manchildren.

The Movie: Viewed now, it's hard to deny that On Golden Pond , the second biggest box office hit of 1981 (behind Raiders of the Lost Ark ) and winner of three Academy Awards, is more than a little cheesy.
Highly Recommended The Movie: Not many people have presumably heard of Ruben Ostlund, a writer and director who had done several films in his native Sweden. That may be changing shortly as Force Majeure may be the first notes of attention from America and elsewhere to Ostlund talents and in this film which he also wrote and directed, it is easy to see why

Rent It THE FILM: I guess 2013's V/H/S 2 represents the peak on this cinematic bell curve, as the original and this second sequel, V/H/S: Viral , are about on par with one another.
