From his cult following and mainstream appeal, to his secretive ways and dedication to the art of storytelling, J.J. Abrams could be the best commercial film (and TV) maker working today. Digging into his personal nostalgia — he was a kid raised on the movies of Steven Spielberg, and by now the tale of how teenage Abrams repaired three of Spielberg’s early 8 mm films really is one of the best stories out of Hollywood in ages — the man who rebooted Star Trek and gave us Felicity Porter might just land the best film of the summer (though X-Men: First Class is excellent).
