I’m will to bet that this summer finds you dropping more than a few sheckles at the movies. The line up of films is as long as your arm. I won’t waste your time discussing them here, I’ll be reviewing later, I’m just gonna wet your whistle. So here goes by theme:
The End of the World Films…
Elysium
Starring: Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura
Director: Neill Blomkamp
A man-made orbital habitat is home to Earth’s wealthy, while the rest of us survive on a devastated planet below. With Matt Damon I expect the best.
After Earth
Starring: Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman,
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Stranded after the crash of their spaceship, father & son try to survive on Earth 1,000 years after mankind abandon it. Save me Will.
The End Of The World
Starring: Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, James Franco
Directors: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen
In this action-comedy that takes place at Franco’s house, everyone plays himself as they encounter the apocalypse. Sounds stupid, but who knows?
World War Z
Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale
Director: Marc Forster
Brad Pitt is a U.N. employee racing against time to stop the spread of a deadly Zombie pandemic. The effects look incredible.
Pacific Rim
Starring: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Soldiers piloting giant robots battle against various Godzilla-like monsters that begin attacking big coastal cities. This is del Toro, expect the unexpected.
The Super Hero Comic Book Films…
Man Of Steel
Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner
Director: Zack Snyder
Lots of effects, strong visuals and lots of action mark this Superman reboot from “300†director Zack Snyder.
Kick-Ass 2
Starring: Aaron Johnson, Chloë Moretz, Jim Carrey
Director: Jeff Wadlow
The first film was, Kick Ass, so expect more of the same as other normal citizens jump into the fray.
The Wolverine
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova
Director: James Mangold
Wolverine heads to Japan to go up against Silver Samurai and Viper. Jackman as Wolverine, count me in.
The Action/Adventure Films…
White House Down
Starring: Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke
Director: Roland Emmerich
We’re rescuing the President in his own home again, but this time Roland Emmerich is in the driver’s seat. Expect the best.
The Lone Ranger
Starring: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Helena Bonham Carter, Dwight Yoakam
Director: Gore Verbinski
From the creators of “Pirates Of The Caribbean†comes a reboot of the popular 30’s radio & 50’s TV Show. Johnny Depp as Tonto, no more need be said.
