Review by Ian Delia

Another one of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s movies is now raising the bar. This new motion picture is filled with intense action. There isn’t only shooting and fighting, but also new and unusual, animals. From smaller, slightly lethal ones the develop into giants of terror with their mission to take over the world to please their master.

All the power of endless destruction is controlled by one person Claire Wyden (Malin Akerman.) What can be wrong with biological engineering? We use it on plants and food, and sometimes we mess with the DNA of an animal to make them better. However, running tests in space with a mutagen gas on test rats doesn’t go well and as safe as it seems, in this case biologically engineering animals ends in a bad way. The splicing of DNA from other animals now leads to giant gorillas, impenetrable armored alligators, and flying wolves. Will this failure be thwarted by David Okoye (Dwayne Johnson), Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris), Dr. Kerry Atkins (Marley Shelton), and Nelson (P.J. Byrne)?

The movie Rampage is based on a video game. In 1986 a Nintendo 64 game came out also called “Rampage”. They both share the terror of the monsters that destroy different cities around the world. As like this movie, the game also features a gorilla, an alligator, and a wolf.

This movie however can be stereotyped as a regular Dwayne Johnson movie if you watch the trailer. The story and plot seem similar to his movies like San Andreas and G.I. Joe. But, none of his films can compare with this movie because there are multiple things that makes it unique and exceptionally exciting. Check it out.

The CGI created for Rampage is phenomenal with the animation of the mutated animals being amazingly precise. Also the acting by the cast in conjunction with the mutants is done well. It’s hard to develop a character without the animals present, but Johnson and the other actors make it look real reacting to the monsters that aren’t even there. The way the monsters destroy the city, knocking over buildings and throwing cars, looks as if it were really happening. And they are terrifying as they devastate everything around them . With all the mass destruction you will want to see this film in 3D to get the full mind blowing experience.

Rampage has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for foul language and fighting scenes that may not be suitable for some children. (4 out of 5 Stars)
