World champion sand sculpture artists take the Treasure Island Beach by storm as they recreate a 6 ft. piece of “Wonderland”

WHO/WHY: To officially kick off the Blu-ray and DVD launch of “Alice in Wonderland” and Memorial Day, local World Champion sand sculpture artists from Sanding Ovations will be at the Treasure Island beach behind the Bilmar Beach Resort Hotel, FL to create their 6 ft. version of the Mad Hatter Hat.

WHAT: The City of Treasure Island in conjunction with The Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment to support of the release of “Alice in Wonderland” on Blu-ray and DVD will allow beachgoers to “Fall Down The Rabbit Hole” between 10am-4pm to win their very own copy of  the DVD/Blu-ray™ courtesy of Magic 94.9 and TV32 which will be onsite awarding prizes.

*Sculpting will begin at 6am through 5pm for stand up opportunities.

Cakes of Wonderland – Take a trip to “Cake Divas” where the creators of the EAT ME cakes provide viewers with details about how they made the smallest crumb to the largest cake in scale.

Tea Party Props – Tea cups, saucers, cakes and more. Prop master Doug Harlocker gives an overview of all the props used to bring the famous tea party scene together visually.

Sanding Ovations

Over 35 years of combined experience in sand sculpting. The company is owned and operated by Treasure Island, Fl. residents Dan Doubleday and Meredith Corson.
Together they travel the world creating sand sculptures for hundreds of clients each year. Between the two, they hold 15 World Champion medals and have won or placed in every major competition.

Sanding Ovations recently participated in Sand Blasters III, The Extreme Sand Sculpting Competition on the Travel Channel and they were recently featured on the Today Show with Al Roker. You might have seen Al Rokers’ head carved out of sand by Dan Doubleday.

BANDS ON THE SAND 2 is Treasure Island’s Memorial Weekend FREE concert for you and several thousand of your best buds. Non-stop live music plays from Noon to 10pm on Treasure Island’s wide festival beach behind the Bilmar Beach Resort on Saturday, May 29th. There are tons of vendor booths featuring arts and crafts and a huge variety of things to eat and drink. $10 parking right on the beach means you don’t have to lug your beach chairs and coolers very far.

Saturday Sunsets on the Trail is a sunset celebration that takes place along Treasure Island’s gulf front beach trail on the first and third Saturdays of June, July & August and the first Saturday in September. This free family event features artisans, crafters, street performers and live musical entertainment, weather permitting, from 5pm until 9pm.

SANDING OVATIONS is Treasure Island’s First Annual Master Sand Sculpting Competition and Music Festival, a four day competition of eight sand sculpting masters from throughout North America, who create astonishing works of art using nothing but sand, water and lots of their own imagination. November 18-21, 2010
