There’s a very cool date film in town starring a fine cast coupled with very good direction. It’s called It’s Complicated and the funny storyline sticks to its title. If you like your romance with handfuls of comedy, then It’s Complicated is a no brainer for you.
The story follows Jane (Streep) a divorced mother with three grown children who has a successful business in Santa Barbara. Her ex-husband Jake (Baldwin) has married a younger woman with a child from a previous marriage and has not been able to make the relationship one that would make him truly happy. In a chance happening, Jane and Jake are drawn together at their son’s graduation and things start getting intimate. When Jane meets the charming Adam (Martin), Jake gets jealous and things get complicated.
I enjoyed this very funny love story that has a lot of twists and turns. Streep and
Baldwin give enjoyable performances and you can feel the heat between them come off the screen. The imaginative script is well played out by all the whole cast and even Steve Martin does not over act or try to outdo the central characters, which made it all the more pleasurable.
Writer and Director Nancy Meyers who gave us the mature adult comedies Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap and The Holiday tops her previous films with It’s Complicated. Her control of the A-list actors in this twisty film is certainly to be admired.
The film is rated R for sexuality, just the right stuff for dinner and a date with your loved one.
FINAL ANALYSIS: An overall quirky love story with very good acting. (3.5 of 5 Palm Trees)
