(Fort Lauderdale, FL) — November 18, 2010 — The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLiFF) brings in the holiday spirit with the annual Can Film Festival, December 3 – 5 at Cinema Paradiso.  Admission for all films, with the exception of Sunday morning Cafe Cinematheque, is free with the donation of  2 canned or boxed food item or a new unwrapped toy to benefit The Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

jingle all the wayThis year’s Can Film Festival kicks-off December 3 at 6:30pm with holiday treats and Egg Nog.  At 7:30pm FLiFF presents the heartwarming film The House Without A Christmas Tree (1972) with special guest and star of the film, Lisa Lucas.  Lucas made her screen debut portraying 10-year old Addie Mills in the critically and commercially acclaimed television film in which she co-starred with Jason Robards.  She and Robards appeared in three sequels together.  She also appeared in numerous other television hit series including Family Ties and Facts of Life.  She also appeared in feature films The Turning Point and An Unmarried Woman among others.  Lucas, now a resident of Palm Beach County, received a journalism degree from FAU Boca Raton Campus and has been a professional journalist since 2005. 8crazynights_poster3Start off Saturday, December 4 at 10:00AM with FAB! Films For Kids.  Featuring a holiday family favorite The 12 Dogs of Christmas. The day of films continues from 2:00pm – 8:00pm with films including: Angel Doll, the uplifting story  adapted from the Joe Bledsoe novel,  Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights and the animated holiday delight featuring the voices of Sandler, Jon Lovitz and other stars, the comedies Scrooged starring Bill Murray and Jingle All the Way starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad, and The Hebrew Hammer (2003) about an orthodox Jewish blaxploitation hero that saves Hanukkah from the clutches of Santa Claus’s evil son.

On Sunday, December 5 enjoy a holiday brunch with Café Cinematheque International and see the Oscar® nominated French film Joyeux Noel. Dany Boon (Micmacs) is among the wonderful international cast featured in the moving WWI drama about troops from both sides that call a truce on a Christmas Eve. Catch three more films between 2:00pm and 6:00pm; Yogi’s First Christmas stars everyone’s favorite cartoon characters from Jellystone – Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Cindy Bear, It Happened on Fifth Avenue – the rarely seen Christmas classic from 1947 and Christmas in the Clouds a holiday romantic comedy and case of mistaken identity at a ski resort owned by a Native American Nation.

Admission for Cafe Cinematheque is $12 General Admission | $8 for FLIFF Members

Venue: Cinema Paradiso, 503 SE 6 Street, downtown Fort Lauderdale, just east of the Broward County Courthouse on the south bank of the New River.

Parking: Free in the courthouse parking garage after 6pm Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Meters are free after 6:00pm Friday and Saturday,  and free all day Sunday.

7:30 pm  The House Without a Christmas Tree (1972) – A young girl growing up in Nebraska in the 1940s wants nothing more than to have a Christmas tree for the holidays (not rated – would be G). Special guest: Lisa Lucas

Saturday, December 4

10am    The 12 Dogs of Christmas (2005)  -  During the Great Depression, a young girl’s love for dogs teaches the residents of a small town the true meaning of Christmas (rated G).

Noon    The Angel Doll (2003) –  Heartwarming story originally made for television and adapted from the bestselling novel by Jerry Bledsoe about two boys growing up in North Carolina in the 1950s and the determination of one of the boys to earn enough money to buy his sister an angel doll for Christmas (not rated – would be G).

2pm     Jingle All the Way (1996) – It’s a fight to the finish as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad compete to find a Turbo Man action figure in time for the holidays.  Rita Wilson and Phil Hartman are also in the cast (rated PG).

4pm     Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights (2002) – Adam Sandler provides the voice for the three lead characters in this animated holiday delight that also features the voice talent of Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz, Norm Crosby, and Tyra Banks (rated PG – 13).

6pm     Scrooged (1988) – What are the holidays without a version of the Dickens classic?  Here, Bill Murray is a television executive who learns some important lessons when he’s visited by three spirits (rated PG 13).

8pm     The Hebrew Hammer (2003) – An orthodox Jewish blaxploitation hero saves Hanukkah from the clutches of Santa Claus’s evil son (rated R).

Sunday, December 5

10am    Café Cinematheque International starts with a holiday brunch followed by

Joyeux Noel (2005) –Dany Boon (Micmacs) stars in this Oscar-nominated French film (Best Foreign Language) that takes place during WWI when troops from both sides call a truce on a Christmas Eve (rated PG-13).

2pm     Yogi’s First Christmas (1980) – Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Cindy Bear are awakened from hibernation and decide to try and stay awake to celebrate Christmas with their friends at Jellystone Lodge.  Features classic animation voice talents including Daws Butler, Don Messick and Janet Waldo (rated G).

4pm     It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947) – Often neglected holiday film about a homeless man and his friends who move into a Fifth Avenue mansion in New York City to spend the holidays while the family who lives there is wintering in the South (not rated – would be G).

6pm     Christmas in the Clouds (2001) – Mistaken identity and holiday romantic comedy at a ski resort owned by a Native American Nation (rated PG).
