Assuredly that when a well-acted, directed and written film gets produced, the accolades will be high. This is the case of Extracurricular Activates, a wicked, compelling and jaw dropping dark comedy that will have glued to the screen. Get the popcorn and drinks ready, then pop the DVD or start the VOD for an evening of fun. Mature teens and up for this winning film.
Seventeen year old high school genius Reagan Collins (Colin Ford) is upset at what his friends are going through. Their parents have faults that are bringing them down and if they could they would eliminate them from their world. Their failings range from being creepy, think their kids are ungrateful and underachieving teens, in the way of their sex starved love life, and worthless.
Whew, sounds like the community is falling apart. Well Reagan has a plan for each of his schoolmates that will not only eliminate their troubles, but put a lot of money in his pocket. You know, a business that will keep on giving as long as there’s people who feel sorry for the next of kin.
Director Jay Lowi does a terrific job of bringing this wacky film to the screen setting up the viewers with a surprise opening scene then delivering several punches throughout. The script by Bob Saenz gets very diabolical with many surprises and twists that will keep you guessing on whether Reagan can continue his business and get away with murder.
One of the main reasons for the highest grade on Extracurricular Activities however, is the acting by Colin Ford. His straight faced serious delivery of Reagan makes his “offbeat†comedy a winner. Controlling all the action with the help of some of the best support actors, he turns a simple plot into an impressive story with bombshells during every chapter.
Extracurricular Activities has not been rated by the MPAA, but contains teen drug use, teen drinking, language, violence, sex and brief nudity. No redemption here, but maybe in a sequel. Now on DVD and VOD.
FINAL ANALYSIS: My highest rating for the production and creative script, (5 out of 5 stars)
