Here’s a little film that reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller, but with an erotic touch. Very suspenseful, great characters, intriguing and with artful direction, the movie Chloe burns up the screen in this unsuspecting strange love story.  The acting is courageous, especially on the part of both Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried.

The plot centers on an upper class Canadian couple, Catherine (Moore) a successful doctor and David (Neeson) a professor at a New York college whose relationship is headed for trouble when David doesn’t arrive at home for his surprise birthday party.  Suspicious that David is cheating on her, Catherine hires Chloe (Seyfried), an escort, to make advances toward him to bring his infidelity to the surface. Chloe relates the story of the meeting with David and it starts to have a sensual effect on Catherine.  Taking her gestures as a sign that Catherine may be open to a tryst with her, Chloe turns her sexual interest toward her. When Catherine starts to balk at Chloe’s wantonness, things start to take a strange turn for the worse.

The acing in Chloe is superb with both Moore and Seyfried giving very realistic performances that heat up the screen. Coupled with beautiful cinematography that captures the desires of the two alluring women, the film reveals a marvelous showcase of their talent.  The chemistry between the revolving trio of Moore, Seyfried and Neeson is amazingly perfect.

Direction by Atom Egoyan is nearly flawless manipulating his actors

through a series of twists and turns that make the plot suspenseful.  Even when the script becomes a little predictable, Atom turns the tables again uncovering more truths and lies.

The film is rated R for strong sexual content including graphic dialogue, nudity and language.  The sexual scenes are provocative, erotic and entrancing that to me borders on a rating of NC-17.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  A suspenseful story with a strange approach to infidelity. (4.5 of 5 Palm Trees)
