MAO’S LAST DANCER reviewed by Alyn Darnay

“Mao’s Last Dancer” is a true rags-to-riches story with a controversial theme based in the world of international ballet. Based upon his book, it portends to be the autobiography of 1980’s Chinese Ballet sensation Li Cunxin, who gained international fame with the Houston Ballet Academy.

THE AMERICAN written review by Delia

I wish I could say that The American is a thrill a minute, but it isn’t. It would be nice if I could tell you that the story is something new and different, but not that either. I want to say that George Clooney does a terrific job of acting, well THAT I CAN SAY and it saves the movie. The film targets the over 20’s male that likes suspense, intrigue with slow moving character and story build up. The ladies will love George Clooney.

THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE guest review

In the first film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Larsson’s story and characters were artfully condensed down to a manageable size and the director and cast were able to achieve a logical, articulate, and breathtaking chase against time to solve a 40-year-old cold case, while introducing two instant classic screen characters. A thoroughly entertaining film, I highly recommend seeing it (now out on DVD).

THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE written review

This film is long, challenging, relentless and brutal, but The Girl Who Played With Fire comes up a winner in spite of these probable shortcomings. Based on a book trilogy by Stieg Larsson, this sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo provides a new case for its central characters and fleshes out new dangers with which they have to deal. It’s a mystery thriller with a twisted ending.
