MANILA, Philippines — I have a love-hate relationship with commercial Filipino movies. I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed the more recent offerings, especially if they star John Lloyd Cruz, who always manages to take a movie a notch higher than it was intended. But most of them have left me wanting — in depth of character, believability of plot, and faithfulness to the Filipino experience.Â
