The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) announced its highly anticipated film line-up for the 24th edition, October 23 – November 11, 2009. President of FLIFF, Gregory von Hausch, announced that over 100 films representing over 30 countries will be presented during the 2009 event.

Academy Award winner George Clooney stars in the title role of The American for director Anton Corbijn (Control). Focus Features holds worldwide rights to the suspense thriller, which begins production this week on location in Italy. Focus CEO James Schamus made the announcement today.

Well they did it again, the movie industry jumped to a level beyond science fiction with Surrogates. It’s called unrealistic. When you make an unrealistic film, you expect the audience to get suckered into a plot so unbelievable that their fantasy brain buds take over and accept what they are watching.

Words like elegant, engaging and enjoyable are best used when referring to Bright Star, a very good film by director Jane Campion who gave us The Piano. The true story period piece comes alive with extremely good performances from the whole cast and the exceptional cinematography depicting the romance of the 1800’s. If you like historical dramas that are well acted and replicate an era then Bright Star should top your list to see.

When it comes to musicals it’s the thrill of watching an interesting character in a dramatic or comedic role burst into song or dance that makes the magic. Although the remake of Fame does have some very good musical numbers, it fails to provide the exciting characters that carry out the story.

Take a true story from the headlines, add some Hollywood comedy and try to make it into a full-fledged feature film. It is no easy task, except if you are Steven Soderbergh. His newest film The Informant is fascinating, remarkable and fun. If you are into films like Catch Me If You Can, A Beautiful Mind or Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, then The
