This was a spectacular year for movies. This year I could have (and actually did) put together two top 10 lists. Some movies were huge mainstream hits featuring major stars; others were small indies that never reached a big audience.
With a year that gave us governmental gridlock, smothering inversions in Utah, killer tornadoes in the Midwest, a bombing in Boston, and the NSA knowing more about us than it should, it seems the only thing good to come out of 2013 is us, alive and in one piece. As it turns out, the best movies of 2013 were about survival.
