This direct to DVD edition of American Pie tops the last two with better direction and more laughs, but the storyline is wearing thin.  Strictly for adults but directed at High Schoolers to early college, the film gathers all the clichés from the previous sequels and ties them into The Book Of Love.  I do admit that the acting in this one outdoes Band Camp, Wedding, Beta House and the ridiculous Naked Mile, even though the raunchiness barometer is about the same in all the American Pie films.

It’s another year at East Great Falls High and Rob (Bug Hall) finds the sex bible that previous scholars have written and hidden in the school library. However it gets water damage from a freak fire started by Rob while trying to save his love interest from loosing her virginity to the wrong guy.  Rob and his two friends Nathan (Kevin Horton) and Lube (Brandon Hardesty) are hell bent on loosing their virginity so they go to see Mr. Lowenstein (Eugene Levy) the founder of The Book Of Love to see if he can recreate the book of High School lovemaking.  When Lowenstein gives them the keys to success the boys set out to win over their ladies page by page.

The film is a lot of fun if you take everything tongue-in-cheek, but if you’re looking for a fresh new storyline you wont get it here.  Filled with ghosts of American Pie pasts the film involves the same plot, High School kids getting sex for the first time.  Only the characters have changed and the method revised.  Fresh new faces and naked bodies set up a voyeuristic canvas on which pubescent lads can feast.

The direction by Putch does tend to be good and his script runs along at a fast pace.  The comedy is snappy, the acting genuine and the camera shots are very good. However, the raunchiness does tend to get a little overbearing, the sex graphic and the language smutty.

The DVD offers an R-rated and Unrated version.  Having said that, the film was never in theatres so the only reason for the R-rating must have been to affirm that this American Pie would have all the gratuitous nudity, sex and language that it’s predecessors exhibited.

The bonus features are fun to watch especially The Gag Reel, Just the Tips: The Love Manual and American Pie-Cons.  And if you are a collector of American Pie films, then try your luck at American Pie trivia.  I only got five correct out of ten.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  If you are a fan of raunchy films, than cut yourself a piece of this American Pie with your favorite brewski.
