‘The Big Wedding’: Zackham delivers a wonderful and funny story

Review by John Delia, Jr.
The big wedding day approaches and Alejandro Griffin (Ben Barnes) is preparing to marry his childhood sweetheart Missy O’Conner (Amanda Seyfried). His adopted parents Don (Robert DeNiro) and Ellie Griffin (Diane Keaton) have been divorced for over 10 years and Don has since found a new girlfriend Bebe Mcbride (Susan Sarandon). Alejandro and his wife to be must meet with the Catholic priest Father Moinighan (Robin Williams) to discuss the upcoming wedding arrangements and go over the final obligations required to be married as Catholics.

When Alejandro finds out that his birth mother Madonna (Patricia Rae) from Columbia wants to come to his wedding he has to find out how to tell Don and Ellie that she is a devout Catholic and does not believe in divorce. From there everything gets interesting.

This is a hilarious, fun time that also includes his adopted sister Lyla Griffin (Katherine Heigl) a lawyer, who has some issues of her own, his adopted brother Jared Griffin (Topher Grace) a doctor, who has been waiting for the right girl to lose his virginity, and his birth sister Nuria (Ana Ayora), who is from Columbia and just wants to enjoy herself. Along with Missy’s interesting father Barry (David Rasche) and crazy mother Muffin O’Conner (Christine Ebersole), things just get more exiting from there.

Director Justin Zackham created a luminous storyline that entertains and brings out some laughter. The story is well paced and builds an excellent plot that’s well explained and delivered. The scenery and backgrounds used in the film are beautiful and give a spectacular setting to the story.

A funny film that includes many amusing characters that will keep you entertained and wanting more. It has a storyline that covers all sides of the characters and a wild plot that will make you laugh with enjoyment. It does have some brief nudity and includes adult sexual conversation that is not appropriate for anyone under the age of 17.

Final Grade: I give this a B for its excellent, funny storyline and wonderful settings.
