Based on a true account, the movie Lebanon comes to the screen with a disturbing, harrowing, claustrophobic view of combat through the eyes of a tank crew. Packed with action, drama with taught situations, the film entertains by taking the viewer into battle and allowing us to be a voyeur of this emotional war. If entered, this film should be nominated for Best Foreign Film by the Academy of Arts and Sciences.
One of the most morbid films released this year, Never Let Me Go, tells the tale of raising children to be harvested for their organs. Although well acted and directed, this film’s storyline is more like something out of horror movie rather than a love story. If it weren’t for the fine acting of Garfield, Mulligan and Knightly, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed Never Let Me Go at all.
You can trick or treat all you want, but you won’t find a give away like this one! The poster is full size like at the movie theatres and is signed by the star SARAH BUTLER. Accompaning her signature is the autograph of the writer of original screenplay Meir Zarchi. As a topper the poster even has director Steven Monroe’s sig.
With Halloween coming on soon I took the opportunity to interview Kane Hodder the star of the fright filled flick Hatchet II on the eve of the film’s release at the AMC Veterans Theatre in Tampa, Florida. He has been in films since 1983 but most horror fans are familiar with Hodder as Jason in Friday the 13th when he did four consecutive releases as the monster. He has also performed stunts in over 70 film titles.
History was never like the movie The Battle of Pussy Willow Creek, but this cynical little tale takes extra steps to guide you through a coup that brought the South down during the American Civil War and settled the argument: Was Col. Jonathan Franklin Hale gay or was it the fashion to wear a dress in combat? Filled with tongue in cheek comedy, this witty ditty is the way all history should be told.
If you are into facebook or myspace then this is one true story that you do not want to miss. The documented film is called Catfish and it’s an eye-opener. Compelling, dangerous, imaginative, intriguing, insightful and enlightening this one man’s encounter with reality blows me away. If you are someone in a long distance computer relationship and have never met the person face to face on the other end, see this movie…now!
Let the Halloween season begin, the top runner Let Me In has arrived and it is ‘kick-ass’ horror that gets so tense that it gave me the willies. What makes this film a stand out comes from an eerie storyline, outstanding camerawork, menacing settings and creepy music that keeps the film a fright show. Acting and direction here are masterful, but with horror I’m sure you just want to know; does it scare.
The age of technology takes an interesting turn in The Social Network, a mesmerizing biopic about the creation of a dream that turned into a billion dollar business. It was so good and perfectly played out I found myself wanting more of the acting, directing and amazing story. The toughest part is not being able to grade the film more than excellent.
