The DVD/Blu-ray for The Last Airbender is in stores and it makes a great gift for the holiday season. I have to admit that being able to slowdown the action, put subtitles up in order to catch every word and rewind to the karate action does a lot more for the storyline than on the big screen. Combined with the special bonus features and the ability to play the film anytime you want, this DVD/Blu-ray has a lot going for it. The film made over $131 million at the USA movie box office.
The film is based on the Nickelodeon animated television series that has a huge following. In the film the story goes like this: Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.
The Last Airbender stars Dev Patel, Jackson Rathbone, Nicola Peltz, Cliff Curtis,
Shaun Toub, Aasif Mandvi and Noah Ringer (as Aang).
The film is rated PG for fantasy action violence. Combined with some very nice computer graphics the karate action is well choreographed to create a sense of realism. The movie is available in the DVD and 2 Disc Blu-ray formats.
Bonus features include “The Origins of the Avatar†an in-depth look at how the movie’s characters came about, a Gag Reel and the following deleted scenes; Talk to the Dead, Water Teaches Us Emotion, Water Tribe Battle and Field Ablaze.
The disc also has a movie trailer for the March release of Rango an animated comedy about a lizard starring the voices of Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, Stephen Root, Ray Winstone, Beth Grant, Ned Beatty, Harry Dean Stanton and Alfred Molina.
