In a refreshing turn of events, “Super 8” doesn’t refer to a gang of eight superheroes but Super 8mm film being used by the middle-school moviemakers in 1979. Directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg, “Super 8” is a mashup of “E.T.” and other sci-fi movies, a valentine to amateur filmmaking and a look at first love.
