Hellbenders 3D: Movie Review
By Yevette Renee Nelson
Bottom Line
Comedy with plenty of Blood Splatter
Director/ Screenwriter
J.T. Petty
Cast
: Clancy Brown, Clifton Collins Jr., Robyn Rikoon, Macon Blair, Andre Royo and Dan Fogler

Director J.T. Petty’s grossly funny and blood splattered film “Hellbenders 3D†follows the exorcists of Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints also known as Hellbender, as they delve into the fears of many people, their belief in the devil and exorcism.
Petty’s inclusion of every possible set of laws that exist in churches and the exaggerated rank language does make for a number of laughs. I certainly like the visual affects of 3D, yet its use adds nothing to the film and is something it could have done without. Cinematographer Ryan Samul’s use of dark lighting and close ups, Production Designer Russell Barnes eerie set designs and Brian Spears special effects make-up gives the needed ambiance for a small budgeted film about exorcism and hell, combined with the over the top characters of Angus, Larry, Elizabeth, Macon, Stephen and Eric makes it very easy to not take the movie to seriously.
The best exorcists around, the six Hellbound preachers, who reside in Brooklyn, NY, are Lutheran Angus (Clancy Brown), Larry (Clifton Collins Jr.), Unitarian Elizabeth (Robyn Rikon), New Age Southern Baptist Macon (Macon Blair), Catholic Stephen (Andre Royo) and Polish Catholic Eric (Dan Fogler) who all make the ultimate sacrifice by living in perpetual sin and debauchery which religiously puts them in a perfect positions to invite possession of demons and take the escaped demons on a journey back hell in an instant.
Black Surtr arrives in New York and his only focus is opening the gateway to hell, forcing the hellbenders to but all of their practiced depravity to work to save the world after one of their own is possessed.
For those who have a fascination with the devil and take religious oh so very lightly, Hellbenders 3D the is a movie for you. 6
