Will Ferrell’s gone indie in the past (Stranger Than Fiction, Winter Passing, etc.) but never with a role that feels so vital. A Raymond Carver short story in the hands of a first-time writer-director gives us pause, sure, but we’re thinking the film might have more to do with Dan Rush’s future career than Ferrell’s. Besides, Notorious B.I.G.’s son co-stars alongside Rebecca Hall (suddenly, one of our favorite actresses), and Laura Dern shows up on the lawn for a bit, too.
