DVD review: ‘Crimson Petal and the White’ Gillian Anderson (“Bleak House”) plays the heartless madam of Sugar’s brothel, and Amanda Hale is the sickly, delusional wife of Sugar’s regular patron, played by Chris O’Dowd. The miniseries is sexy but, like Faber’s novel, uses the format of the Victorian novel to explore the theme of sexual and emotional repression.
