Taking the Grindhouse genre to another level, Robert Rodriguez gives violence new meaning in the slice and dice actioner Machete.  Taking every liberty but keeping the movie just under an NC-17, his film makes others of their genre look splatter less.  If you are into films with a lot of realistic violence, raunchy scenes of hot women and a lot of wacky characters, then Machete will get your adrenaline pumping.

The story goes something like this; Machete (Danny Trejo) a Mexican Federale nearly gets killed by a drug lord (Steven Seagal) after witnessing his wife being decapitated.  His impossible escape from death leads him to a job to kill a Texas Senator (Robert DeNiro) that ends up going wrong.  Wrought with hatred and on the run Machete joins Luz (Michelle Rodriguez) leader of an underground faction against the Senator.  When Federal Agent Sartana (Jessica Alba) seeks out Machete to assist her in bringing down the Senator, all hell breaks loose.

Director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Planet Terror) fills his movie with hot women and wacky characters just what most every action junkie audience loves.

Although it’s a signature of most all Grindhouse films, Rodriguez gives an extra helping of his down and dirty killers that would make even the toughest viewers cringe.  With Danny Trejo driving his machete into bad guys and lopping off their heads in a mighty swing, the blood runs free.  Even Alba takes some swings with a shoe spike and Michelle Rodriguez blasts away on her sawed off shotgun.

Hot, hot, hot, the women in this film fire up the screen with blazing abandon.  In addition to scantly clad Alba and Michelle Rodriguez providing some sexy screen minutes, director Robert Rodriguez adds the steamy Avellan sisters

FINAL ANALYSIS: It’s a love fest and a shock fest all rolled into one. (4 of 5)
