Finally, a Twilight film that really fits the Horror genre and showcases some fine talent has hit theatres. I have to admit that although I am not a huge fan of the movie series, Twilight: The Eclipse provides the thrills, chills and lustful romance that are devoid in the previous two attempts.  My hat is off to David Slade for finally giving at least one of the Stephenie Meyer novels some justice.

In this third sequel of Twilight we find Bella (Kristen Stewart) still on the run from Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) who has built an army of Newborn vampires in an attempt at revenge for the death of her mate James. Interwoven in the storyline are sides that follow Bella as she graduates high school, gets further romantically involved with Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and finds uneasy solace with a questionable love interest in Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).  The two suitors are at odds while protecting Bella. When Victoria’s attack begins, no one is safe from the onslaught.

The fire and anger in Eclipse is more horrific than in the last two episodes.  This coupled with some excellent camera work that allows the audience to get up close and personal with the characters and action make for a better film.  This upturn in the series is credited to some excellent direction by David Slade who directed the edgy films Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night; the latter also involving bloodsucking vampires.

Lautner, Pattinson and Stewart are excellent in their roles and you can see that practice has made perfect.  The three have such amazing onscreen presence that it is hard to take your eyes off their characters.  Again, this points to a fine directing job by Slade.

The CGI and camerawork are impeccable bringing the vampire and werewolf attacks to a very realistic battle together against a new more vicious breed of killers.  As the film opens a teen is walking down a dark and dank street. You can feel the chills as he hears sounds and is brushed by something whizzing past.   This sets the mood for the rest of the film and by far makes it fun to watch.

The film barely earns the PG-13 rating due to intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality.

FINAL ANALYSIS: A must see for Twilight and horror fans alike. (4.5 of 5 Palm Trees)
