“Amadeus weaves a beautiful, tragic fable, enchanting to children and adults alike. It has gore, a pact with God, celebrity, a masked stranger, murder and some of the best music ever written.” (The Guardian)

Amadeus is a sumptuous period epic, celebrating the music of the greatest musical genius the world has ever known, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Winner of eight Academy Awards® including Best Picture, Amadeus tells the story of Vienna court composer Antonio Salieri and his all-consuming jealousy over the bawdy, vulgar, but divinely talented young Mozart. Despite his raging envy as he plots to destroy Mozart, he cannot tear himself away from the sublime genius of Mozart’s music.

The late Amadeus conductor, Sir Neville Marriner, praised the film because it “was shot around the music – not the other way around as is usually the case.” The soundtrack became the first classical album to make the pop charts in six countries, and the score features some of Mozart’s greatest works, including excerpts from Symphony No. 25 in G minor, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, and Marriage of Figaro.

Much of the plot centers around Mozart composing his requiem while on his deathbed. It presents his internal creative process, in which he wrote complete musical thoughts which never needed revision. The film is a beautiful opportunity to eavesdrop on genius at work. For more information, please visit glatzconcerts.com.
