The hit television show from the 90’s has now made its way to the silver screen with a funny action comedy version of the long running series called, “Baywatch.” Just like in the television show the group of lifeguards go above and beyond to save others and stop crime on their beaches. The difference is that this time it takes place in Florida and with a very popular cast. If you like rowdy and raunchy, then check out the movie Baywatch.

As new recruits join the Baywatch team lead by Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson), they begin learning the ways of the lifeguard under their assigned trainers. During their prep they find out what it is like to be a team member and the correct way to save lives.

(L-R) Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon and Zac Efron as Matt Brody in BAYWATCH by Paramount Pictures

However attitude has become a problem with the addition of Matt Brody (Zac Efron), an Olympic swimmer who has fallen from grace. With his hands full of the everyday problems, Mitch has his work cut out for him in turning the new “celebrity” around. The conflict between these two characters make up most of the comedy throughout the story.

(L-R) Jon Bass as Ronnie, Hannibal Buress as Dave, and Kelly Rohrbach as CJ Parker in the film BAYWATCH by Paramount Pictures, Montecito Picture Company, FlynnPicture Co., and Fremantle Productions

When they discover a drug distribution ring is taking place on their beaches things start to take a different direction for both the recruits and the experienced squad. Director Seth Gordon puts together a good comedy that is set in the beach community Emerald Bay, Florida. The actors do a good job playing their rolls, especially Dwayne who portrays his usual funny self. Along with Zac, and John Bass (who plays new recruit Ronnie Graham) they keep the story entertaining and hilarious. As for the ‘Baywatch beauty’s, Alexandra Daddario as Summer Quinn, Kelly Rohrbach as CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera as Stephanie Holden, they do an excellent job playing their roles and help complete the team.

The movie Baywatch has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for Rated R for language throughout, crude sexual content, and graphic nudity. No one should be permitted into the auditorium where it is playing under the age of 17 with an accompanying parent.

Final Rating: I give this film 3 and a half stars out of 5 for its creative storyline and the very comical spoof of the ‘Baywatch’ television series.
