British photographer and writer-director Joanna Hogg spent her formative years working with some of the leading lights of London's film scene: Her mentor, Jim Jarman, helped her on an early film that won her a place at the National Film and Television School, where she cast a young Tilda Swinton as the lead of her graduation short.
